At the Ionian University there is a competent scientific and research activity related to the object of the Institute. This activity comes from members of the Academic community who belong to several Departments of the Foundation such as the Department of Environment, the Department of Informatics and the Department of Audio and Visual Arts.
The University has significant research experience and know-how regarding the development of innovative low-cost recording networks for geo-signals and the parallel development of stochastic models and simulations in order to create decision-making tools regarding the assessment and management of the corresponding risk of Natural Hazards.
He also has strong expertise in the development and operational operation of outdoor equipment for recording environmental conditions, and significant research experience in matters of fluid-thermodynamic study of atmospheric and climate processes.
Equally strong is the field of Engineering, Stress and Thermomechanical and Acoustic Properties of Materials and Constructions as well as the development of New Technologies. Great experience also exists in issues surrounding the Theoretical and Computational Study of the Propagation of Electromagnetic and Elastic/Acoustic Waves through Materials and Structures. The research activity is more focused on Structures that can have direct experimental investigation and can be a basis for technological applications. More specialized topics of research interest are the computational study of Photonic and Phononic materials and Acoustic Metamaterials. From this field comes the computational investigation of structures suitable for seismic insulation and the study of acoustic properties of metamaterials.
Finally, the University has accumulated research experience and expertise in the development of smart electronic power converters for the interconnection of renewable energy (RES) units in old and new electrical network architectures (such as smart electrical grids and micro-grids), the electrification of terrestrial and maritime means of transport, in saving energy and improving the quality of electric power, smart buildings with zero and near-zero electricity consumption, in the evaluation, control and characterization of new RES products, in energy communities and in the training of professionals in the field of RES .
